North Carolina Community College Shooting Suspect Found Asleep on Florida Beach
Kenneth Morgan Stancil III is suspected of fatally shooting Ron Lane
Kenneth Morgan Stancil III, the man suspected of fatally shooting Ron Lane at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina, was arrested early Tuesday after he was found asleep on a beach in Florida.
Polcie had been searching for him since Monday, when he purportedly walked into the Wayne Learning Center at just before 8 a.m., went up to the third-floor print shop and shot Lane, a longtime school employee, according to WRAL.
Stancil, 20, was apprehended in Daytona Beach, Florida, approximately 500 miles away from where the incident took place, NBC News reports. He was found sleeping on a beach around 1:20 a.m. and was taken into custody by deputies from the Volusia County Beach Patrol.
Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce insisted the shooting was not random, but did not release a motive. Stancil was a former work-study student who reported to Lane, college officials said, per WRAL.
Classes resumed Tuesday after the school was placed on lockdown. Stancil is expected to be extradited to North Carolina shortly.
