New York State Police have charged a 20-year-old woman with murdering her newborn boy after recovering the boy’s body from a dumpster late last week.

According to a statement from police, the newborn died from asphyxiation not long after Tara Tomlin gave birth to him.

Police allege that Tomlin, who resides in Livingston, New York, delivered the child inside the convenience store she works in. The baby was allegedly placed in a garbage bag and left in the store’s dumpster, according to authorities.

Officers received a tip early Friday morning that a baby was left behind the XtraMart in Livingston, but a search didn t turn up the child.

A subsequent call received by police led them to the dumpster, where the child was found unresponsive just before 4 a.m. on Friday, the police statement says.

The child’s death was subsequently determined a homicide by coroners.

Tomlin has been arraigned on a single murder charge and is being held without bail at the Columbia County Jail. It was unclear on Monday whether she had entered a plea to the charge or if she had legal representation.
