New Jersey Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault After Colleagues Observed 'Inappropriate Interactions' with Female Student

A New Jersey elementary school teacher has been accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student.
Lauren H. Mitchell, 32, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, was arrested for aggravated sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child on June 19.
Mitchell, a second-grade teacher at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City, allegedly had sex with a female student from her school.
School officials contacted authorities after several teachers “observed what they believed was inappropriate interactions” between Mitchell and the alleged victim on a class trip, a press release says.
Mitchell brought the 15-year-old girl to her Lyndhurst home, where they allegedly engaged in oral sex, reports Cliffviewpilot.com.
Bergen County prosecutors’ special victims unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department carried out an investigation after the Hudson County prosecutor s office shared the information.
Mitchell is being held in Bergen County Jail on $150,000 bail. She will be arraigned on July 7 and has yet to enter a plea.
