The two were reported missing after they went into Manhattan on March 30 to catch a Broadway show
Iona Costello, 51, and her 14-year-old daughter Emily have been found safe and sound in New York City, police say.
The pair disappeared on March 30 after they left their Long Island farmhouse to see a Broadway show in Manhattan. When Emily didn’t return to school after spring break, the family reported the mom and daughter missing.
But it turns out, they were in the Big Apple all along, according to ABC News. They reportedly had no idea that people were looking for them, despite being gone from their home for three weeks, the New York Daily News reports.
However, the disappearance came in the midst of a nasty dispute between Costello and her late husband’s adult children over his will. He died of a heart attack in December 2012.
“I’m thankful my daughter is safe. She’s had a lot of pressure,” Iona’s mother, Diana Malcolmson, told the Daily News. “She just wanted to get away.”
No criminal charges will be filed, and the mother and daughter were released after being questioned by police.
