A mother and daughter are facing incest charges after getting married in Oklahoma – and the mother was married to her son a few years earlier, reports say.

While conducting a child welfare investigation last month, authorities learned that Patricia Spann, 43, was legally married to her 25-year-old daughter, Misty Spann, Time reports. Officials later learned that Patricia married her son in 2008, but he had the marriage annulled 15 months later after claiming incest.

State court records show that the women were married in Comanche County in March. Records also show a marriage between Patricia and Jody Spann annulled in 2010.

Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether the relationship is sexual or not, the Associated Press reports.

Patricia allegedly told investigators that she had lost custody of her three children and the kids were adopted by their grandmother, the AP reports, citing a police affidavit.

She allegedly said she reunited with her daughter two years ago and thought it was okay to marry her because her name was not on her daughter’s birth certificate.

Patricia allegedly told authorities that when she reunited with her daughter, the two “hit it off,” KTLA reports, citing the affidavit.

The pair appeared in Stephens County district court on Wednesday and the women are being held on $10,000 bail.
