A Massachusetts man was arrested in Ohio early Sunday morning after he allegedly stabbed his brother, raped his brother’s girlfriend and then drove both victims to Ohio.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released pending his arraignment, is in custody after he allegedly stole the car of a Pike County, Ohio, sheriff’s deputy and led authorities on a chase before he was finally captured, a Boxborough, Massachusetts, police spokesman tells PEOPLE.
The spokesman tells PEOPLE: “At some point Thursday evening, two brothers who live in Boxborough had an altercation. One brother stabbed the other one and then tied him up, tied up his girlfriend, raped the girlfriend and then at some point drove to Ohio.”
Authorities believe the suspect drove to Ohio because there was “someone he wanted to go see,” the spokesman says, but the case remains under investigation. The spokesman adds that there is an “element of potential drug abuse and mental illness” to the case.
Officials in Ohio were alerted to the crime when the victims showed up at a local hospital, the spokesman says. It’s unclear how they managed to escape.
The stabbing victim is in stable condition, while the rape victim is “okay and traveling back to Massachusetts to be with her family.”
