Police in Sunrise, Florida, have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly killing his girlfriend for twice calling out her ex-husband’s name during sex.

Fidel Lopez’s arrest report, obtained by PEOPLE, alleges he disemboweled Maria Nemeth, 31, early Saturday morning by pulling her intestines out.

According to the report, Lopez said he turned into a “monster” after Nemeth called out her ex’s name two times as the couple was allegedly having alcohol-fueled, “rough sex” in their apartment’s closet.

Lopez allegedly told police Nemeth was so drunk that she passed out, after which he mutilated her body, police said.

According to the police report, Lopez tried waking her up, bringing her into their bathroom to splash water on her face, but she never regained consciousness.

Lopez allegedly told detectives he then washed the blood from his hands so he could smoke a cigarette on the apartment’s balcony, the report says. He returned to find Nemeth not breathing, and called 911, according to the report.

When cops arrived, they found Lopez laying next to his girlfriend, crying for help, the report states. They also observed signs of a struggle, including a shattered glass door and several holes that had been punched into the walls, according to the report.

Detectives also discovered “lots of blood” and “chunks of bloody tissue” strewn throughout the couple’s apartment, the report states.

Lopez has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail. At press time, he had not yet retained a defense attorney.
