The troubled actress was due to report to a facility Thursday night according to the terms of her March plea deal
Lindsay Lohan checked into the Betty Ford Clinic in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on Thursday night, for what is to be a three-month stay, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.
“She needs rehab and the whole world knows it,” a source tells PEOPLE about Lohan, who was due to check into a rehab facility on Thursday.
“And she showed up [at Morningside Recovery] in the morning and hated it. She thought the facilities are gross. … She is interested in going back to Betty Ford because she knows everyone there.”
Lohan, who has been in rehab a total of five times before this, was previously in Betty Ford in 2010. At that time she made headlines when an employee went public with claims the actress was “out of control” and had alcohol on her breath during a tussle between them. A police investigation followed.
Prior to this check-in to Betty Ford, which was first reported by TMZ.com, California prosecutors had said late Thursday that the troubled actress, 26, would be arrested if she continued to flout a court order to enter a rehab facility. Her treatment comes as a condition of her agreement in her lying to police case over a car accident last June.
Lohan’s latest stint is part of a plea deal negotiated in March that requires her to spend 90 days in a facility, as well as doing community service and undergoing psychotherapy.
“She’s looking forward to rehab,” the source tells PEOPLE. “Betty Ford was the best she’s been in a long time. She was happy and healthy there.”
Her stay there will be in lieu of a six-month jail term for violating her probation related to a previous shoplifting case.
