Pop singer Justin Bieber has a Valentine’s Day date with a South Florida judge on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license.

“Justin doesn’t have to be there,” Ed Griffith, a Miami state attorney’s office spokesman, tells PEOPLE. “He will plead non guilty and the process will begin.”

The 19-year-old star, who been vacationing with friends and family in Panama, will have his case seen by Miami-Dade Judge William Altfield in the County Criminal Division on Feb. 14. Altfield spent nearly 25 years as an assistant state attorney prosecuting public corruption cases.

But, according to the Miami Herald, Judge Altfield also has a flair for the dramatic. Last year, he played Don Quixote in the popular musical, Man of La Mancha, at the outdoor amphitheater, Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens.

Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested last week in Miami Beach during what police described as an illegal street drag race between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. Neither has been charged with drag racing. Police say Bieber admitted to smoking marijuana, drinking and taking a prescription medication.

Bieber’s Miami lawyer Roy Black did not return calls for comment.
