Justin Bieber Arrested in Miami for DUI, Reportedly Told Police He Had Taken Marijuana
The singer reportedly failed a sobriety test after being pulled over for speeding
Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach early Thursday for DUI and told police he had been smoking marijuana and taken prescription medication.
Miami Beach Police confirmed the arrest on Twitter before releasing more details in a press conference. Local media reports said the pop star had just left a club on Lincoln Road when he was pulled over.
“The officer smelled odor of alcoholic beverage,” a spokesman for Miami Beach Police said. “Mr. Bieber at that point was not cooperating with the officer’s instructions. The officer asked him to exit the vehicle. He was questioning why he was being stopped. Ultimately he eventually did exit the vehicle and he would not follow the officer’s instructions. The officer at that time did place Mr. Bieber under arrest for resisting without violence.”
“He was brought to Miami Beach police station where a DUI investigation was conducted. It was determined that he was impaired,” the spokesman continued regarding the 19-year-old’s behavior during the investigation. “Mr. Bieber made a statement that he had consumed some alcohol, and that he had been smoking marijuana and had consumed some prescription medication.”
Bieber has been charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license out of the state of Georgia, and resisting arrest without violence.
A source close to Bieber tells PEOPLE: “He is in custody. There had been another car pulled over in front of him.”
Bieber was driving a rented Lamborghini at the time, police sources told NBC 6 South Florida. No other details were known.
Bieber has been in Miami all week. Police in Opa-Locka, Fla., are investigating events from Monday, when Bieber and some friends received a police escort during a night out, which included a visit to a strip club.
The singer is also under investigation for allegedly throwing eggs at a neighbor’s home in Los Angeles several weeks ago.
