A Missouri high school senior was arrested on Thursday after he abducted his friend’s 10-year-old sister, with whom he was obsessed, police say.

John Thomas Classen, 17, was charged with child kidnapping, burglary and two counts of child abuse, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Authorities say Classen told his friend that he thought she was cute and that he loved her.

“I took it in the best possible way and thought he was just being friendly,” the brother of the victim, who did not wish to be named, told the paper.

But Classen was anything but friendly, and early Thursday morning, he broke into the family’s home and dragged the 10-year-old out to his car, authorities say.

The girl’s mom spotted the two outside and called 911. Police rescued her just over a half-hour later when Classen was stopped at a police checkpoint, KMOX reports. The 10-year-old was shaken and bruised but unharmed.

“We were very, very fortunate to get on it right away,” O Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler told the paper.

A list allegedly found on Classen’s phone hinted at his intentions. “Take her to a secondary location, explain everything to her, smother her, rape her dead body, clean up and then pose the body photograph her, dispose of her body, leave town,” the list read, according to court documents obtained by the Post-Dispatch.

The brother is shocked that Classen, whom he had known for five years, would do something so horrible.

“This is one of those things that makes no sense. There’s no logical reason behind it,” he said. “I hope he gets punished and that he gets some mental help.”

Classen is being held on $1.5 million bail.
