Heidi Jones, who has filled in on Good Morning America, said a Hispanic man assaulted her
A local weatherwoman in New York who has done fill-in work on ABC’s Good Morning America has been charged with faking a police report in which she said a Hispanic man stalked her in Central Park this fall.
Heidi Jones, 37, has been suspended from WABC-TV and faces up to a year in prison if convicted, New York’s Daily News reports.
Jones claimed a man attacked her while she was jogging on Sept. 24 and dragged her into a wooded area, only to flee when tourists approached. The same man approached her in the park two months later, Jones told police.
Police soon began to doubt her story, and Jones later admitted she made it up because she was having problems in her relationship and thought it would gain her sympathy, the News reports.
Still, Jones plans to plead not guilty when she appears in court on Jan. 5, her attorney says.
