Two persons of interest have been detained after the body of a 9-year-old girl was found in a duffel bag along a California hiking trail, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the child’s identity Sunday as Trinity Love Jones of Los Angeles County.

The coroner determined her death was a homicide, though her exact cause of death has not been released.

“Investigators have detained two persons of interest in this case and they are actively continuing their investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Trinity’s body was found stuffed in a duffel bag along an equestrian trail in Hacienda Heights on March 5.

Police had previously called on the public for help in identifying her and released a sketch that featured her in the pink shirt and blue pants she was wearing when her body was found.

“A sad moment for the department and the community, and we’re going to do our best to figure out what led to the suspicious death of the child involved,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press conference.

According to ABC 7, Trinity’s body was discovered by local workers doing maintenance on the trail.

Retired L.A. County Sheriff’s sergeant Dan Scott, who has been involved in dozens of child abuse and death investigations, told The Los Angeles Times that it’s “extremely rare to see a child’s body dumped.”

Her father Antonio Jones told the outlet his daughter was “fun, loving, big heart(ed), bubbly.”

“Little girl could’ve been whatever she wanted to be in life,” he said.
