Katie Welnhofer, a producer of FOX Business Network’s Mornings with Maria, has been fired from the network days after she was arrested in a cocaine ring bust, PEOPLE confirms.
Welnhofer – who pleaded not guilty – was one of 18 other white collar buyers arrested last week after an investigation into a citywide cocaine ring, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The 30-year-old was terminated from her job on Tuesday for a security breach, a Fox spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
On Thursday, Welnhofer appeared in Manhattan’s Supreme Court for arraignment. According to court documents, Welnhofer allegedly purchased cocaine from her Chelsea apartment in March and May.
Welnhofer’s attorney, John Buza, tells PEOPLE he believes his client will be absolved of all charges.
“I think that the reason why there is a strong media inquiry [into this case] is based on the fact [of] where she works,” Buza says. “After careful analysis of all the evidence I think she’s going to be absolved of everything.”
Three drug kingpins were arrested for allegedly selling the cocaine. According to court documents, Kenny Hernandez, Felix Nunez and Oscar Almonte allegedly sold more than $75,000 worth of cocaine over the course of one year.
The trio allegedly sold their drugs throughout the city– meeting their customers at bodegas, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, hotels and their workplaces, the court document’s state.
Welnhofer’s next court appearance is Sept. 8.
