Police in Florida claim a Guatemalan national, living in the state illegally, allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend telling to detectives that two “demons in his head” told him to do it.

Marco Perez, 25, allegedly told Tallahassee police he killed 25-year-old Idelcira Perez after she confronted him with allegations he’d cheated.

The confrontation led to an argument that escalated, according to arrest affidavits obtained by PEOPLE.

According to the affidavits, Perez claimed when his girlfriend pushed him, he began striking her in the head, beating her unconscious. The affidavit alleges Idelcira was killed Saturday night after Perez dragged her into the woods, beating her some more before covering her body with debris and leaves.

Detectives claim Perez called police on Sunday, and initially told officers two men with masks and guns forced him to beat and bury her. Later, the affidavit alleges he changed his story, indicating the two men were actually demons in his head, directing his behavior.

The woman’s remains were recovered in a nearby wooded area, according to police.

Perez has been charged with murder, and is being held in the Leon County Jai on an unknown amount of bail.

Court records failed to indicate whether Perez has a lawyer yet.
