Flo Rida Arrested for DUI in Florida

The musician was also cited for driving with a suspended license

Rapper Flo Rida was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami Beach for a DUI and for driving with a suspended license.

“He had a blood alcohol level of .185 which is well over the legal limit,” Deborah Doty, a spokesperson for the Miami Beach Police Department, tells PEOPLE.

Flo Rida, 31, who was born Tramar Dillard in Carol City, Fla., attracted the attention of Miami Beach police when they saw him driving erratically through the heart of South Beach in his two-door 2008 Bugatti.

According to the police report, his car was swerving. When the rapper was stopped, the officer saw that he had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on his breath.

The officer gave him instructions on how to walk a straight line on a smooth service that was well-lighted, according to the report. But after the second attempt, the rapper told the officer: “I can’t do this. I don’t think I can walk a straight line. I had a few drinks. Let’s do another test. I live on the other side of the bridge. I can make it home.”

But when he didn’t perform to standards, he was arrested and transported to the Miami Beach Police Department for processing and was later booked into Miami Dade Correctional Department, according to Doty.

“Until we have an opportunity to meet with our client and conduct our own investigation into the facts, we are declining further comment on this matter,” attorneys Christopher Lyons and Sandy Becher said in a statement, telling PEOPLE that a judge has signed an order permitting Flo Rida to travel to Bangkok, Thailand for a series of upcoming concerts. He will leave Thursday evening.

A routine computer revealed Flo Rida’s driver’s license was suspended on May 3 for failure to pay a traffic fine when notice was given to him to do so on April 13.
