'Dr. Zhivago' Ordered to Pay Valet $318,000
Omar Sharif – the suave star of Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia – was ordered to pay more than $318,000 for allegedly punching an L.A. parking lot attendant, the Associated Press reports.
The valet, Juan Luis Ochoa Anderson, claimed the 75-year-old actor tried to pay with a 20 Euro note. When the Guatamalan-born Anderson refused, he said Sharif called him a “stupid Mexican,” then punched him.
When Sharif – who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery following the 2005 incident – failed to show for a deposition, Superior Court Judge Joe W. Hilberman entered a default settlement Tuesday for $318,190 plus legal fees.
