The horrible news was hard to believe.

When Stephanie Moseley’s Hit the Floor costars heard that she’d been killed Monday – the victim of an apparent murder-suicide involving her husband, rapper Earl Hayes – they were in shock.

“The whole story is very devastating to all the cast and crew,” says a source close to those on the VH1 basketball drama, that stars Dean Cain and on which Moseley played a professional cheerleader. “Everyone absolutely loved Stephanie.”

As for reports the incident may have taken place following an argument over rumored infidelities, the source says, “I don’t know of any issues she had with her husband … this all came as a very big shock.”

According to the LAPD, officers responded to a neighbor reporting gunshots being fired inside the couple’s Park La Brea home early Monday evening. Upon arrival, they discovered Moseley, 30, and Hayes, 34, dead at the scene.

Autopsies for both bodies are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.

Her colleagues say that the sudden loss of the former professional dancer from Vancouver has left a gaping hole in their hearts.

“[This show] is a tight-knit family,” says executive producer James LaRosa in a statement to PEOPLE. “We not only lost a beautiful dancer, we lost a sister, a daughter, a best friend and an irreplaceable piece of our heart. We’ll miss her more than we can possibly express.”
