The father of a 4-year-old Ohio boy whose wife was indicted on murder charges for allegedly placing him in scalding water as punishment now also facing charges, PEOPLE confirms.
Robert Ritchie, 31, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors allege Ritchie failed to seek medical treatment for his son, Austin Cooper, who was allegedly placed in boiling water for nearly 20 minutes as punishment for refusing to take a bath.
A prosecution source tells PEOPLE Ritchie allegedly waited 15 hours before calling 911 about his son’s injuries.
Ritchie’s wife, Anna, allegedly put Austin into the water, prosecutors allege. The 25-year-old woman was arrested two months ago and charged with endangering children, murder, and felonious assault. Additional criminal counts could be filed in the coming weeks, the source offers.
Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said at an April press conference that Anna Ritchie allegedly placed Austin in the water to punish him because he didn’t want to take a bath.
“To teach him a lesson as a form of punishment, she decided to run scalding water in the bathtub,” Fornshell said.
Fornshell estimated the water was 134 degrees, and that Ritchie allegedly placed him in there for 20 to 25 minutes.
After he was placed in the scalding bath, the prosecution alleges that Austin’s legs were bleeding. Skin had also slipped from his blistering legs as his stepmother allegedly put his pajamas on.
The boy was allegedly sent to bed, and found dead the next morning.

Robert Ritchie’s attorney, Frank Schiavone IV, could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
Anna Ritchie has denied all of the allegations against her. Medical officials have informed investigators that Austin could have survived his injuries had he received immediate medical help.
