Chris Brown's Probation Over After 2009 Rihanna Assault
“IM OFF PROBATION!!!!!!!! Thank the Lord!!!!!!” the singer, 25, Tweeted on Friday.
Brown was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats after beating his then-girlfriend Rihanna on Feb. 8, 2009. The singer pled guilty to the charges and accepted a plea deal of community labor to avoid jail time.
A purple-haired Brown was present in court on Friday when Judge James R. Brandlin reviewed his probation report and decided the singer was not in violation of his parole when he failed to get permission for a trip to San Jose on Jan. 12.
But fortunately for Brown, his probation officer satisfied the court with Brown’s reason for the trip, and the judge revoked his probation.
In court papers obtained by PEOPLE, Brown said “that he appreciates being able to better his life and wants to work on being an upstanding citizen.”
A progress report from Brown’s therapist also indicated that the singer “has committed to sobriety and using the skills he has learned, to control his impulses and reactions. He has accepted responsibility for his actions, has a better sense of empathy and understanding of himself.”
