The 78-year-old comedian was released on $1 million bail on Wednesday after being arraigned on aggravated indecent assault charges from a 2004 sexual assault case for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand. Following Cosby’s brief court appearance, director Judd Apatow tweeted his reaction to the news. “Bill Cosby has spent his life attempting to silence the women he has assaulted with threats, lawsuits and money,” he wrote adding, “Hopefully now many of these women will get to tell their stories in a court of law and the people who supported him will get deposed.” Apatow, 48, has been one of the most vocal stars in Hollywood to condemn Cosby over the 50 sexual assault claims against the comedian. In addition, his Girls collaborator Lena Dunham praised the court’s decision against Cosby. Cosby has vehemently denied all of the allegations. “Grateful that Bill Cosby’s criminal record will be marked forever, like the lives of the women he raped. They deserve justice and peace,” Dunham, 29, tweeted. “If I believed in hell Bill Cosby would be going there.” Amy Schumer responded to a fan who referenced her Inside Amy Schumer parody of the Cosby case. “It’s so awful!” the Trainwreck star wrote. Constand was the first woman to come forward with sexual assault allegations against Cosby and is the first criminal charge brought against him. Cosby’s next preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 14.
