California Babysitter Arrested After Death of 18-Month-Old Left in Her Care
Police allege suspect Gina Nicole Bailey shook and dropped a boy she was watching dropped him on the floor
A babysitter has been arrested on a California Air Force base after a child she was caring for died after allegedly being shaken and dropped.
A statement obtained by PEOPLE confirms Gina Nicole Bailey, 24, who lives at the Travis Air Force Base, was arrested on Tuesday by detectives from Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and charged with assault on a child causing death.
She’s being held on $750,000 bail, according to court records.
Authorities allege an 18-month-old boy who Bailey would often babysit stopped breathing while in her care late last week.

The child’s name has not been released.
One day after being taken to the hospital, the child died.
Police allege that an autopsy shows the boy died from internal brain injuries. Detectives believe the injuries were caused by violent shaking.
Police also suspect the child was dropped at some point, according to police.
Bailey, a civilian resident on the base, has not yet hired an attorney to represent her.
