Autopsies are tentatively scheduled Wednesday for VH1 star Stephanie Moseley and her rapper husband Earl Hayes, who were found dead Monday at their Los Angeles apartment after a suspected murder-suicide.
Ed Winter, the Los Angeles County coroner’s assistant chief, confirmed to PEOPLE that Hayes, 34, pulled the trigger on Moseley, 30.
“He shot her and then himself,” he said, adding that Moseley “had multiple gunshot wounds.”
Winter said a toxicology screening will most likely be conducted, but the decision will be up to the medical examiner performing the autopsy. Toxicology results generally take four to six weeks.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reports that Floyd Mayweather’s camp “had conversations with” Hayes before he shot his wife, and that detectives are contacting the professional boxer and gathering electronic records to shed more light on the deaths.
Hayes was a close friend of Mayweather, the newspaper reports, and was once signed with Philthy Rich Records, the boxer’s label.
Friends of the couple told KTLA in Los Angeles that they had some difficulties, but no one “saw this coming.”
“Hayes is not a violent guy,” said Burrell Wilks, one of Hayes’s best friends. “We’re all devastated. We’re at a loss for words on this one.”
“Stephanie was an absolute angel. She really was, added friend Eva Marcille Pigford, a model and actress. “She brought so many people into my life. She s connected so many people. She s just loved. She will never, ever, ever, ever be forgotten.”
On Monday, police were called to their second-floor apartment after shots were fired and a woman was heard screaming in the 300 block of Hauser Avenue in L.A. s Fairfax district. SWAT officers were summoned to the apartment complex after Hayes allegedly barricaded himself inside. Officers kicked down the bathroom door and found the couple lying in the bathtub, according to a law enforcement source.
