An Atlanta-area man is in critical condition after his sons allegedly attacked him over the weekend.

Zachary Ervin is being hailed as a hero after he distracted his two children long enough for his wife Yvonne to call 911 and summon help to their home.

Police said Yvonne called 911 on Saturday night to report that her two sons, Cameron, 17, and Christopher Ervin, 22, were trying to kill her and her husband, WSB-TV reports.

When officers arrived on the scene, “Zachary came out of the garage and collapsed,” Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Rich Long told CNN. “He had a lot of head and body injuries from blunt force trauma and stab wounds on his back.” He was hospitalized in critical condition.

Yvonne also “had blunt force trauma but not as severe as the father,” said Long. Both are expected to survive.

Cameron and Christopher, who were still at the house when police arrived, were arrested on the spot. They have been charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and two felony counts of first-degree arson after police noticed that the home’s gas line had been tampered with, according to WSB-TV.

“There is no official motive at this point, but there has to be something more to this,” Long said. “I’m sure they didn’t just wake up and decide to kill their parents yesterday.”

The suspects have not yet entered a plea to the charges.
