Despite her family’s courtroom tug-of-war over where and how she should live, Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter is just fine, her attorney tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“Ariel is doing well and she has a lot of people who are loving her and supporting her at this time, and I’m pretty confident that she’ll fare well through all of this,” says the 14-year-old’s guardianship attorney, Amir Pichvai.

“She is obviously a very smart and articulate young lady and an accomplished actress.”

A judge last month awarded temporary guardianship to Ariel’s adult sister, Shanelle Gray, amid allegations that their mother, Chrisoula Workman, had been physically and verbally abusive – which Workman denies.

Winter, who has continued with her work on the hit ABC sitcom this week as her off-screen family drama unfolds, is expected at the premiere of her Disney Channel movie, Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess, on Saturday in Los Angeles.
