Amy Winehouse was arrested, and later released, on Monday in London in connection with an alleged plan to derail a criminal case against her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

“A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by appointment at an East London police station,” police tell PEOPLE. “She is currently in custody. The arrest was in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice.”

Winehouse’s U.S. rep tells PEOPLE: “I can confirm that she did go in voluntarily to be interviewed and was placed under arrest, as is common practice in the U.K., before being questioned.”

The singer was released after being questioned, her rep says.

The arrest relates to a witness-tampering charge for Fielder-Civil, 25, who is accused of assaulting a barman in June. He is currently in jail ahead of a trial.

As is British custom, police do not name people who are arrested – only if they are later charged with a crime.

Winehouse was forced to give fingerprints and a saliva swab to police. “Any person arrested is required to give both DNA and fingerprints,” says the spokeswoman.
