The infant victim's grandfather was also injured in the incident, but will recover
Police in Alabama confirm that over the weekend, a 6-month-old girl was fatally shot by her father, who then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
PEOPLE confirms with officials in Calhoun County that Kahlia Marie Gordon was killed on Sunday, shortly before 1 p.m.
The murder allegedly followed some sort of a domestic dispute, but police are not discussing what led up to the violence.
According to investigators, Kahlia’s father, Trenton Gordon, also shot the girl’s grandfather inside a home in Ohatchee.
Gordon then fled the scene with Kahlia, police said, and once outside the home, shot the baby girl once, killing her.
Police said Gordon then died by suicide with the same gun.
Responding officers tried to revive the baby, but it was too late. Her grandfather is said to be recovering from the incident.
A GoFundMe account has been established to help cover the burial costs for Kahlia.

WIAT reports that Kahlia’s mother, Christina Gamez, recently filed for a protection from abuse order following a domestic violence incident that occurred back on Valentine’s Day.
The station claims court documents allege Gordon violated that order on March 29 — just two days before the murder-suicide.
