An 18-month-old baby who was severely injured in an alleged assault at his Hornell, New York, home Wednesday died on Sunday morning, PEOPLE confirms.
Ian Mykle Maniske-Huff died shortly after 4 a.m. at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, where he was transferred after his mother rushed him on foot to St. James Mercy Hospital in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning.
The nature of the toddler’s injuries have not been released, pending a post-mortem exam, according to The Democrat and Chronicle.
On Saturday, police arrested 22-year-old Dakota M. Miller and charged him with second-degree assault. According to authorities, Ian had been left in Miller’s care when the injuries occurred.

Police say Miller could face additional charges now that Ian has died.
Miller was also charged with violating his parole from a previous burglary arrest. He remains jailed while authorities continue to investigate.
Miller has not yet entered a plea to the new charges against him.
