Gladys Tordil, 44, Allegedly Gunned Down by Estranged Husband in Maryland High School Shooting Leaving Another Injured: Report
No suspect has been identified.
One person is dead and another injured after a shooting on school grounds in Maryland, Prince George County officials confirm to PEOPLE.
Police later ID’d the alleged suspect as 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil, USA Today reports.
Tordil allegedly opened fire on school grounds at High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland, Thursday evening, shooting and killing his estranged wife Gladys Tordil, 44. Tordil also reportedly shot a male bystander who tried to diffuse the situation.
The second victim was shot in the shoulder and is said to be in stable condition at a local hospital, NBC News reports.
Police told, Fox5 in Washington D.C., that they had believed it to have been a domestic-related incident.
The shooting occurred after school hours, but students involved in after-school activities were still present on campus when an argument between the Tordils allegedly broke out in the parking lot, USA Today later reported.
Police are still reportedly looking for the suspect.
“This was a sad, sad event which, at this point, appears to be domestic violence which occurred in the parking lot,” Prince George’s County Police Chief Henry Stawinski told the paper. “No students were directly involved. No students were harmed during this event.”
While students may not have been the target or directly involved in the incident, some were still impacted by what happened.
“Everyone was just crying, like we didn’t know what to do. We were just crying,” one student told NBC. “We have a crate where we put all of our equipment. They rushed us in there and after about half an hour they us to a locker room and they kept us in the gym after that.”
Classes are expected to continue as scheduled on Friday, the network reports.
