She may be a musical newcomer, but this isn’t Meghan Trainor‘s first year at the CMAs.

The “All About That Bass” singer actually attended last year’s awards as a present from her mom to honor her big move to Nashville, she revealed on the red carpet Wednesday night during CMT’s pre-show.

“We got popcorn. It was bomb,” Trainor, 20, joked of sitting in the back. “But I told my dad, ‘I don’t want to be here [again] until I’m invited.’ ”

No problem – the star not only scored an invite and a trip down the red carpet, but she’s also sharing the stage with country queen Miranda Lambert for a joint performance of Trainor’s song.

As it turns out, her hit single happens to be Lambert’s jam.

“She told me she plays the song before and after every show with her band,” Trainor said. “I was bugging out. She was telling me to my face, I was like, ‘Dad, did you hear that?’ ”

Catch the CMAs on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
