What's Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town's Cute Holiday Tradition?
Like many, when it comes to the holidays, Little Big Town singer Kimberly Schlapman’s family is all about tradition.
Every Christmas Eve, “my whole extended family get together down in Georgia in the living room at my sister’s house, and my mama hands out gifts to every person in the room,” Schlapman, 45, tells PEOPLE about her clan, who include husband Stephen and daughter Daisy Pearl, 7.
“We all open them up, and it’s always matching pajamas. We put the pajamas on, then we come back to the living room, and my daddy reads the Christmas story from the Bible,” says the singer, whose ritual is followed by putting out cookies for Santa.
But, once the kids are in bed, the country star says with a laugh, “we parents go from there” with the adult fun.
As for this year’s PJs pattern, “I’m not gonna let the cat out of the bag!”
That’s not the only tradition to which Schlapman’s accustomed, though.
“I grew up around the table with my family having really special meals, especially on the holidays,” says the singer, who has partnered with Smithfield’s #LendAHam campaign, which hopes to deliver up to 1 million servings of protein to families in need this holiday season.

“Some families can’t just go to the grocery store and buy food for a meal like that, so this gives those families an opportunity to have the same cozy, warm meal that we do. Everybody deserves that time,” she says. “When much is given, much is expected.”
Another blessing the singer counts is the band’s recent Grammy nod. And for the record, the quartet did commemorate the nomination with some “Day Drinking.”
“You know we’re going to celebrate! The day that we found out about that nomination, a whiskey company came and brought us a bunch of gifts, and a lot of that was partaken,” Schlapman says. “No matter how many times you hear that word ‘Grammy,’ it’s always so very special and to be nominated again is the ultimate pat on the back.”
