The Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd is getting his post-show career started with a bang. More specifically, a history-making bang!

Boyd’s debut single, “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face,” which he performed during the show’s live finale, debuted at No. 1 on the country charts. It’s a record that puts him in some pretty esteemed company: The only other single to ever debut at No. 1 was Garth Brooks’s “More Than a Memory” in 2007.

This one seems like it might have been fate, though; it was a “gift” from Boyd’s The Voice coach Blake Shelton, who handed the song off to him after opting not to record it himself.

Shelton had been “carrying the song around in his back pocket for years” not knowing what to do with it, and even admitted that he didn t record it because of the difficulty level.

“You know, looking back, I don’t know if I’m really one of those guys that believes in ‘meant to bes,’ ” Shelton said. But “this may have been one.”

Nashville-based Boyd, 35, who earned Shelton his fourth victory on the show’s seventh season, has already announced plans for a tour, which will kick off with his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Jan. 3. He’s also planning an album for 2015 that he describes as “classic country.”
