Entertainment Music Country WATCH: Go Behind the Scenes of Runaway June's 'Lipstick' Video — Featuring 'Bachelorette' 's Luke Pell Get an exclusive behind the scenes look at Runaway June's debut music video By Kelsey Hendrix Published on November 10, 2016 12:15 PM Share Tweet Pin Email JoJo Fletcher‘s ex has a new leading lady… actually, make that three new leading ladies! In an exclusive look at the making of Runaway June’s new “Lipstick” music video, former Bachelorette contestant Luke Pell is serving up some serious cowboy charm alongside country music’s hottest new trio. “We wanted something carefree, about having fun with no worries and finding someone who makes you happy,” Runaway June explained to PEOPLE exclusively. “That Thelma & Louise vibe fit in with it, and Luke was more than perfect for that. He’s not really a love interest, per se, but more of a drifter we pick up and go on an epic adventure with.” Ford Fairchild. The brainchild of director Peter Zavadil, the video features an epic, cross-country roadtrip complete with a pop, popsicles and an unforgettable karaoke session. Zavadil is also the mastermind behind country music video hits like Dustin Lynch‘s “Cowboys and Angels,” as well as Thomas Rhett‘s “Beer with Jesus.” “This was our first video and it was the most relaxed, cool environment working with Peter,” the band said. “He’s so creative and collaborative. He made us feel smart and involved, and he has so much energy, so it made us all have energy.” “We did a little bit of acting but we really just had fun,” the band continued. “He didn’t give us any specifics; he really just put us in our environments. What you see is what was really going on.” But you can bet it’s their heartthrob lead that still has the girls ooh-ing and ahhi-ng over their first music video. Courtesy Runaway June “Our leading man, Luke Pell, is not too hard on the eyes,” said Jennifer Wayne, granddaughter to the legendary John Wayne and one-third of Runaway June. “So we’ve been having a good time.” “Who is Luke? He was on The Bachelor and he is an artist; he’s a singer songwriter and he is amazing. And he is eventually going to be all three of our husbands,” the trio joked. “[The ladies of Runaway June are] all so cool and laid back and fun to work with,” Pell told PEOPLE. “I couldn’t have been happier to do that with them. For them, it’s such a monumental point in their career and artistry. They’re debuting themselves on a national level and this video is a big part of telling their story as artists. I’m so excited for all the momentum they’ve got going right now.” Runaway June was recently named one of CMT’s 2017 Next Women of Country, as well as one of Pandora’s Country Artists to Watch in 2017. With “Lipstick,” Runaway June also becomes the first female trio to earn a Top 40 hit on the Mediabase Country Single Chart in a decade. SheDaisy last earned the honors back in 2006. “As you can imagine it’s really incredible to put it in those terms,” the trio said of their recent recognition. “We just are putting our nose to the grind and really trying to work as hard as we can. It’s incredible and we can’t believe it’s been that long since a female trio has made a splash like that.” Comprised of the three-part harmonies of Naomi Cooke, Hannah Mulholland and Wayne, Runaway June was also chosen by Carrie Underwood to be the star’s background vocal group during her electrifying, all-girl band performance of “Dirty Laundry” at the 50th Annual CMA Awards last week. Jason Myers “When we were standing there and it was happening we were still wondering how it happened,” the band said of being selected by Underwood. “She has been in the industry for so long and she’s really stayed on the top. She’s never been in the tabloids for anything weird and she represents our genre to the upmost. And you know what? She seriously somehow just keeps getting better and prettier!” So be sure to tune in when Runaway June makes their video debut! The official music video for the group’s chart-topping single “Lipstick” will premiere on CMT Hot 20 on Saturday.
