At a sunset ceremony Thursday evening with Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains in the background, country singer Ashley Monroe wed her baseball beau, Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks.
“I married my best friend,” says Monroe, 27, a Knoxville, Tenn., native who met Danks through a mutual friend in 2011 after a show in Chicago. “He has such a good heart.”
Blake Shelton officiated the nuptials, which took place at Blackberry Farm, the same bucolic site where Kelly Clarkson said “I do” four days before, while Monroe’s best friend (and fellow member of the Pistol Annies) Miranda Lambert was her maid of honor.
“They’re my dearest friends,” Monroe said of the superstar couple. “And we wanted someone with personality to marry us!”
Lambert also served as wedding planner – Monroe dubbed her “Plannie Annie” – doing everything from organizing the day s schedule to hand-making some of the decor.
“Miranda was the one who cared about all the details!” said Monroe, who arrived at the ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage wearing a custom-made Haute Hippie gown while her groom wore Armani. “It was magical.”
