This isn’t his first rodeo: Hunter Hayes just bested some of the biggest names in country.

The 23-year-old won favorite male country artist at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday, beating out veteran chart-toppers Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and Tim McGraw.

And he gave one of the cutest acceptance speeches of the night, thanking his mom and dad for their support as the audience let out a collective “Aw!”

“I had unbelievable parents,” he said, “who believed in my obsession with music.”

Next up for country’s newest crush? A bit more than three years after the release of his first album, Hayes is hitting the road with Grammy-winning group Lady Antebellum for the Wheels Up 2015 Tour.

Could this finally be Hayes’s year to take home the golden gramophone? The people sure hope so.

“Thanks for giving me a voice,” he told the PCA voters,” and giving me a reason to believe in myself.”
