Okay, so maybe it’s more “mutual respect for each other as artists” and less bromance, but Keith Urban and Eric Church sure do make beautiful music together.

The two recently paired up for Urban’s new single “Raise ‘Em Up” and it was something Urban had been hoping to do for some time. “I love [Church’s album] Chief, it was one of my favorite records of the last, easily the last 10 years, if not more. We became friends and I thought, ‘I’d really like to do something with Eric!'” says Urban.

It didn’t take much convincing to get Church on board.

“He sent the song to me and when I first heard it, my first thought was, ‘I wish I had written it,'” says Church. “My second response to Keith was, ‘I wish that because I feel like we did.’ I felt like my part, his part, if we sat down and wrote a song, it would be that kind of song. It’s artistic and it’s got depth and it’s about something so universal.”

Even though the song (written by Tom Douglas, Jaren Johnston and Jeffrey Steele) wasn’t written as a duet, Urban still heard both of their voices on it. “It just struck me as the perfect song,” he says. “The theme of the song, particularly in the second verse, is just perfect for Eric!”
