He reveals to PEOPLE that he popped the question to fiancée Katelyn Jae one night in April while the two were watching The Amityville Horror, a movie about newlyweds who move into a house where a mass murder has been committed. Um, let’s just hope Brown doesn’t believe in omens. Brown, the 24-year-old up-and-comer who just notched a No. 1 with “What Ifs” with childhood pal Lauren Alaina, admits it was a “weird proposal.” The plan had originally included “rose petals and everything like that” for the next day, but “I just couldn’t wait.” And no matter: As everyone knows by now, Jae said yes. The couple is planning a wedding for fall 2018. With his extensive touring schedule, Brown said, “that was the only open, free date that I had.” Jae — who tried a career as a vocal artist before realizing “she doesn’t like to be in the spotlight” — is now finishing up studies in music management. The couple met “a little over two years ago,” Brown explained, and now share a household and a dog, Nash.
