Dan + Shay Take Tequila Shots on Carpet After Their Hit Song 'Tequila' Wins Their First Grammy
The duo's hit song "Tequila" was nominated for two awards on Sunday
Pour some tequila – it’s time to toast Dan + Shay!
On Sunday, the “Speechless” singers won the award for best country duo/group performance for their song “Tequila.” The duo then took the 2019 Grammys red carpet, where Ryan Seacrest help them toast their win with their own bottle of engraved tequila. After the three took a celebratory shot, Seacrest asked if they’ll be going big after the show to keep the party going.
“Dude, you have no idea,” Shay Mooney said. “I’m going to put this whole [bottle] inside of the Grammy and I just might drink it all.”
Their smash hit also garnered a second nod at this year’s Grammys for best country song, which ultimately went to Kacey Musgraves for her song “Space Cowboy.” Both of Dan + Shay’s nominations mark the duo’s first-ever Grammy recognitions.
Ahead of their win, the duo shared a photo listing both of their nominations on Instagram with the caption: “tonight is the night.”
“We met exactly 6 years ago, today (12/7/12), and woke up this morning to our first Grammy nomination(s),” the band wrote on Twitter in December. “Emotion level: maximum.”

The duo, who are coming off a wildly successful year following the release of their self-titled album, told PEOPLE in June that part of the secret to their success as a music group is that they are truly best friends.
“We complement each other,” Smyers said. “We’re very much the same and we have a lot of mutual interests but we’re also different and we balance each other out. I think that’s the beautiful thing about being in a duo.”
