Scoring Garth Brooks as a fan is certainly not a bad way to start the new year!

That’s exactly what a group of elementary school students did when their chorus director, Gregg Breinberg of PS 22 in Staten Island, New York, led them through a spirited version of the inspiring Brooks tune “People Loving People.” The group clearly had a blast during the performance, but they had no idea it would reach the big man himself.

Brooks shared the video on social media along with the message, “When we learn to love like children…just beautiful @PS22Chorus. love, g.” An excited Breinberg then responded with, “How fantastic is this???? Hey kids, looks like you just made an impressive new fan impressed!!”

It’s not the first brush with fame for the young singers, either: They’ve performed for President Obama, appeared on the Today show and have covered tunes by artists as varied as Mariah Carey, Sara Bareilles and Pink Floyd.
