Dierks Bentley Reveals the Real Story Behind 'Drunk on a Plane'
"I do like having some drinks and I like planes, so it worked out pretty good," the singer shares
Of all the things you might want to do in your lifetime, being drunk on a plane with Dierks Bentley is likely up there on your list. And the country hunk sings about an alcohol-fueled flight in the clouds in his No. 1 “Drunk on a Plane,” which he performs on the Oct. 18 airing of Front and Center, as part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the CMA’s Songwriter Series.
In the exclusive Front and Center clip above, Bentley explains that he was dealing with a bit of writer’s block before fellow writer Josh Kear suggested the title “Drunk on a Plane.” That’s when everything changed.
“I was like, ‘We gotta write that song, man,’ ” Bentley recalls. “I do like having some drinks and I like planes, so it worked out pretty good.”
As for Bentley’s personal mile-high moments? He’s staying mum. But one thing is for sure: He’s enjoying the song.
“It’s been a fun song to write and an even more fun song to watch the crowd sing on the road,” he says. “The video was pretty fun too – so it’s been a fun song.”
Catch Front and Center this Saturday, Oct. 18, on Public Television.
