When Brad Paisley first met Demi Lovato, she did not live up to his expectations at all – and that was a very good thing.

“I thought for sure she was going to be full blown diva that walks in with entourage and feather boa in the middle of the day,” jokes Paisley of first making Lovato’s acquaintance when he was asked to play guitar for her at the iHeartRadio Awards in April, in the behind-the-scenes clip for their tune “Without a Fight.”

“Who wears feather boas anymore?” counters an amused Lovato.

But it’s clear the duet partners have become fast friends since their introduction earlier this year.

“I’m a big country fan, I’m actually a fan of his,” says Lovato, 23, of Paisley, 43. “I know, don’t let it go to your head!”

The singer, who is clearly enjoying shedding her pop roots, also adds that this project holds special meaning for her. “My mom was a country singer and being able to sing it finally has been kind of like a dream come true,” says Lovato. “Hopefully I’ll be doing some more of it.”
