The singer – and Memphis, Tennessee, native – performed alongside country singer Chris Stapleton at the CMA Awards in Nashville on Wednesday.

Timberlake, 34, and Stapleton, 37, strummed their guitars while singing the country crooner’s song “Tennessee Whiskey.” After Timberlake asked the crowd, “Nashville, how are you feeling tonight?” they put a fun spin on Timberlake’s “Drink You Away.”

Prior to their energetic set, Timberlake took to Twitter with a photo of him practicing the guitar, writing, “Almost time. #CMAawards.”

Stapleton dropped the surprise about collaborating with his pal in an interview with Rolling Stone Country on Monday, saying, “He was so gracious and kind to want to do it. I’m excited … It’s something I’ve never done before.”

Thrilled with his performance, Timberlake was heard whooping after stepping off stage, while his band, The Tennessee Kids, popped in to the press room to yell, “We killed it!” Also sharing the love: Little Big Town, who ran down the hall to congratulate Stapleton.

The CMAs mark the first time Timberlake has taken the stage since he performed with Taylor Swift at a 1989 concert in Los Angeles in August.

Although he was solo on the CMAs red carpet, wife Jessica Biel joined him in the audience, where they brought on sweet moments.
