Carrie Underwood – who welcomed her first child, Isaiah Michael Fisher, with husband Mike Fisher on Feb. 27 – was an obvious choice to include in our World’s Most Beautiful issue – she’s not only stunning, but supremely talented.

What wasn’t so obvious though, at least not to a 13-year-old Underwood, was that perms are a very, well, distinct look.

“When I was 13, I got a perm, and it was a big mistake – shocker!” Underwood tells PEOPLE. “It wasn’t my first perm, but it most definitely was my last. It took my hair a while to recover, but I learned my lesson – no more perms!”

Judging by the looks of her perpetually smooth, wavy locks, we can, indeed, confirm that Underwood’s hair has recovered.
