Brett Eldredge is a ladies’ man.

In the steamy new video for his romantic single “Mean to Me,” the country star shows off his impressive abs, yes, but more importantly shows that he’s in it for your heart as well.

“It really puts a girl on a pedestal that she deserves,” Eldredge tells PEOPLE of the song he penned with veteran songwriter Scooter Carusoe. “Any girl that can deal with the craziness that men are deserves the world.”

The 28-year-old was inspired to write the song because he “wanted to have a song that you think of when you fall in love.”

“One day I hope to be able to sing that song to a very special girl in my life,” he says. But in the meantime, “I get to sing it to every girl in the crowd every night and that’s a pretty awesome feeling too.”

The sweet tune is already winning over fans: “I’ve had people get engaged on stage to [it],” says Eldredge.

In fact, on last Sunday’s episode of Big Brother, Eldredge serenaded former contestants Jeff Schroeder and his girlfriend Jordan Lloyd following their on-air engagement.

The video, which was shot in Chicago, features a shirtless Eldredge getting ready for a romantic evening.

“I’m preparing myself the best I can for this girl because she is everything,” he explains. “She is your world and you want to make sure everything is perfect for her. It kind of gave me chills shooting it.”
