Subscribe now for an inside look into their shocking split, only in PEOPLE. Since they wed four years ago, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have battled persistent rumors of trouble in their union. The couple exchanged vows in Lambert’s native Texas in May 2011 after dating for six years, but because of their busy schedules, the newlyweds spent only about 150 days together in their first 18 months of marriage. Shelton, 39, and Lambert, 31, first met in 2005 when they collaborated on a Country Music Television show when The Voice coach was still married to his first wife Kaynette Williams (they divorced a year later). Tabloids often latched onto the narrative of Shelton having a wandering eye, but the star told PEOPLE in 2013 he gave his wife access to his electronics in case she needed any reassurance. “[I tell Miranda], ‘I have nothing to hide from you,'” he said at the time. “That’s always been our policy: ‘Here’s my phone. Go through it.’ That’s really the kind of trust we have. There are no secrets. [I’ll say], ‘Go dig through my drawers or my computer if you feel like you need to.’ And that’s been a really good thing, because I don’t want her to ever have any doubts.” 7 Reasons We Loved Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert Together The country stars also took to social media to defend their marriage in March 2013 after Shelton was linked to another singer. “I just read in a tabloid that our marriage is falling apart!!!” he Tweeted. Responded Lambert: “Oh no! Can’t wait to read if we make it or not.” Jokes aside, both have been open about the difficulties of maintaining a healthy and happy marriage with two superstars at the height of their careers. “She literally has flown across the country to be with me for one night and will get up and go home the next morning where I just won’t do it and say, ‘Oh, I’ll see you next week!’ ” he told PEOPLE in late 2012. “I’m just a guy about it, I guess. She’s always been the one to go through hell to make sure we spend time together.” “She’s kept us strong, especially in the early days when it was easy to give up and say ‘This is too hard,'” he added. “She’s the one that’s always found a way.” Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert’s Sweet & Saucy Tweets “You are being pulled apart. Literally,” Lambert said in 2014. “Blake’s person is pulling him that way and my person is pulling me this way. You get to that point where you’re both saying, ‘Where is our time? We need us time.’ ” The couple announced their divorce Monday. • Reporting by DANIELLE ANDERSON Don’t miss a beat of country music news, photos and videos!
