In the midst of their vacation at Shelton’s home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, music’s new it couple hopped in his truck and headed out for a bite with pals on Monday. Donning matching camouflage outfits, Shelton, 39, and Stefani, 46, almost went unnoticed when they walked into Gonzalez Mexican restaurant, a town favorite.
“They just looked like a normal couple,” diner Starlet Etheridge tells PEOPLE. “We wouldn’t have recognized them if my brother-in-law hadn’t worked for him before.”
Stefani was less recognizable than Shelton. “She wasn’t dressed like a rock star at all,” said Tiara Blue, Etheridge’s sister, who wrote about the experience for NonDoc. “She was wearing next to no makeup.”
“I said, ‘Is that Gwen?'” explains Etheridge, who walked over to the couple’s table. “Then Blake said, ‘How did you see her? She’s wearing camouflage!’ Then she pulled her hoodie back a little bit, smiled at me, and gave me a little wave.”
And the duo kept the meal just as casual while nestled in their corner table. “They were smiling and laughing genuinely, leaning into each other, and having a really good time,” adds Etheridge.
The couple were at the restaurant earlier that day, too, says Rose Mary Rivera. “Gwen was in the truck,” she explains. “He walked her to the truck and came back to get some takeout.”
That’s when Shelton made time to take photos with her children, two of whom she had just adopted. “He was very cordial and nice,” said Rivera. “I told him the foster children would enjoy having pictures with him.”
The sweet moments continued through Tuesday, when the couple stopped by Dairy Queen for ice cream. Stefani showed off her scoops – and the gorgeous view from Shelton’s passenger seat – in a tweet, writing, “Hi Dairy Queen gx.”
“Blake loves kids and has been having a lot of fun when he spends time with Gwen’s kids,” a source recently told PEOPLE. “They adore him.”
