Play me some new ALABAMA!

The iconic country band will release Southern Drawl – their first album of original material in 14 years – on Sept. 18, and PEOPLE has the first listen to the album’s lead single, “Wasn’t Through Lovin’ You Yet.”

“We had a decade break from recording as a band. All three of us felt that we had more to say and more music and songs floating around in our heads to share with the world and our fans,” Randy Owen tells PEOPLE of the band’s return.

The new tune is an emotional song that caught Owen’s ear right away.

“It got my attention the first time I heard it, and I asked to hear it again two and three times and knew it was powerful,” he says. “It can be a guy talking to his girlfriend or wife, or it can be the three of us talking to our fans. Either way, it is a wonderful song, and we got to put the magic ALABAMA harmony on it.”

So how does it feel to be back together and making new music after all this time?

“It was amazing to walk back into the studio, but it was also scary because we did not know if it could be the final time all three of us record together,” says Owen. “We took our time to do this right and recorded over six months.”

Owen believes the new tracks will help the band get more acquainted with today’s country audience.

Says Owen: “We hope that a new generation of ALABAMA fans will find this music fresh, relative and exciting from a band that has been creating music for four decades.”

Southern Drawl is available for pre-order on iTunes – and you can get the single now.
