Venezuelan singer Nacho talks to People Chica about meeting Jennifer Lopez in her home in Los Angeles and writing new songs together.
Venezuelan singer Nacho met Jennifer Lopez at her home in Los Angeles to make some music together. The encounter with JLo was captured in a video Nacho shared on his Instagram account in 2016, getting fans excited about the meeting of musical minds. In the clip, the Nuyorican superstar gives Nacho a kiss on the cheek after he compliments her on camera: “The music industry has one queen and that queen has Latin roots in her heart. I feel very proud to be able to be here working, producing, writing, singing, recording and dancing with her. Her name is Jennifer but the world knows her as JLo.” The singers met with producer Motiff (seen in the clip), which generated thousands of comments from fans. “Something big is coming,” one said. “So excited. I love you both,” another commented.
Nacho (born Miguel Ignacio Mendoza Donatti) recently talked to PEOPLE CHICA about the unforgettable experience of working with Lopez and the songs they wrote together, which they have yet to record. “I went to her beautiful house and studio, and we did two or three songs together in collaboration as composers and authors,” he says. “I don’t know if we are going to record them together but I hope so.”
The Venezuelan activist and artist was impressed with JLo’s personality. “She’s incredible. She’s a humble person. She is a successful woman and she doesn’t show that off,” he recounts. “I met her that same time I went to her house, and I found a more beautiful woman than you can imagine or you see on television or movies. In her house she doesn’t use makeup. She was with her flip-flops and pajamas.”
Nacho’s biggest inspiration are his four sons, and he spends time with them in Miami when he’s not touring. One reason he went solo in 2017 was to have more control over his schedule — and less time away from family. The musician also works with Marc Anthony’s entertainment company Magnus Media and even won a Latin Grammy through his collaboration with the salsa crooner. In fact, it was Anthony, Lopez’s ex-husband and longtime creative partner, who arranged his meeting with her. “I had the opportunity to work with him on various projects, and Marc has a great relationship with Jennifer, very harmonious. He called her and said: ‘Nacho is here with me and I would love for him to go see you and make music with you.’ She was thrilled and welcomed me in her home,” the 34-year-old says.
Nacho admits that when he showed up at her doorstep with producer Motiff, they had no idea what to expect. They were pleasantly surprised. “She was super relaxed, she had her hair up in a bun. She started making music with us, writing and recording. We had a great time,” he assures.
Nacho — who will be touring the United States this year — did not give a sneak peek of the songs but says he is happy with the result. “Jennifer Lopez is a businesswoman. She is a complete artist. She creates content for many things, music for movies and not only for herself, so I don’t know what we’re going to do with those songs, but I hope to record one with her one of these days,” he adds.
He also recently teased a top secret collaboration with Mexican singer Paulina Rubio, sharing a photo with her on Instagram on Feb. 5. The caption reads, “Pau is by far the funnest of my friends. Today we had a great time preparing a surprise for all of you.” Stay tuned.
