Jake T. Austin, who starred in The Fosters and Wizards of Waverly Place, is now providing his voice for an animated adventure in the new film The Emoji Movie. He will voice Alex, a teen who has trouble communicating with his crush at school and at the center of his phone is Textopolis, where all emojis live.
Although it’s been over five years since the Disney Channel sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place went off the air, the 22-year-old actor told Chica that he still remains close to the cast, including singer-producer, Selena Gomez. “Everyone is great about keeping in touch and checking in on each other, making sure that everyone’s where they need to be in their life,” he said when asked if he still kept in touch with former, on-screen big sister SelGo.
The Wizards cast proved their tight bond in April when they had a Russo family reunion for costar David Henrie’s wedding in Southern California. The entire gang was present including Austin, Gomez, Jennifer Stone, David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Barrera. “[We] all bet on who would be the first one to get married,” Henrie told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “No one bet on Jake, and I didn’t bet on Selena. I probably bet on myself. I always knew I wanted to get married and looked forward to being a husband.”
