Cristiano Ronaldo Gets Kicked in the Face — and Checks iPhone to Make Sure He's Still Pretty
On Jan. 21, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo got kicked in the face by Swiss player Fabian Schär during a match between Real Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña, while his girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez and mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, watched in horror and panic. He checked his face in an iPhone to make sure his handsome face was unscathed, prompting fans to make fun of his preoccupation with his looks.
Spanish model Georgina Rodríguez, the long-time girlfriend of Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo with whom she shares four children, looked horrified when her beau got kicked in the face during a match between Real Madrid, Ronaldo’s team, and Deportivo La Coruña on Jan. 21.
During the game, the athlete dived onto the ground — and successfully made a second goal for his team which won 7-1 — and received an accidental kick from Swiss player Fabian Schär’s cleat. Afterward, Ronaldo writhed in pain and clutched his bloody face. His mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, and Rodríguez were captured on the sidelines wincing in sympathetic pain and covering their faces in panic.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner and model checked the condition of his face — a commodity as valuable as his soccer skills! — on his physician’s phone. A photo of him examining the damage with his doc’s iPhone camera made its way through the Internet, prompting some to mock the soccer stud for his preoccupation with his looks. One called the incident, “the most Cristiano Ronaldo moment ever.”
Another wrote: “Ronaldo does the most Ronaldo thing ever. Checking out his nasty head injury with the physio’s phone,” said one person.
Here are a few other derisive comments:
Following the match, Real Madrid coach Zidane gave the media updates on Ronaldo’s condition: “He has got a wound and I think he’s been given two or three stitches. He’s all right,” he said.
The team is set to play again on Jan. 24 as they face Leganés in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
